There are I,424,373 refugees in Uganda today.
Everyday, hundreds of South Sudanese men, women and children are forced from their homes because of civil war. They left everything they have just to find safety.
These men, women and children have experienced, witnessed and endured some of the most violent and painful experiences that anyone could possibly imagine. But their story doesn't end here....
Once they have reached a safe place like a refugee settlement there are incredible organizations on the ground providing emergency medical support, food, water and shelter. These services are important. Once those basic necessities are taken care of, the memories of war begin to surface.
Trauma is exposed.
Each of these men, women and children have a story. Each of them have lost so much. They lost their homes, their way of life, the ability to provide for their families, opportunities in education, sometimes loved ones were killed and the list goes on.
