Role Summary
The Security Assistant helps to maintain a safe and secure environment for staff, visitors, and communities across program sites—ensuring smooth and responsible operations in refugee settlements, reintegration centers, and office settings.
Reporting to the Admin Coordinator, this role supports day-to-day security measures: monitoring physical sites, enforcing access controls, reporting threats or incidents, and assisting with staff movement safety. The Assistant also helps prepare for donor visits, community events, or emergency deployments—contributing to both prevention and response.
Whether ensuring safe entry at the main Office in Gulu, Potters House in Guru Guru, guiding visiting guests through a settlement, or keeping incident logs during unrest, the Security Assistant is entrusted with protecting not only physical safety but also the dignity and confidence
of the organization’s presence in community spaces.

Core Tasks and Responsibilities

Support the monitoring and securing of program offices, stores, reintegration centers, and refugee camp activity poi

Check and register visitors, service providers, and delivery agents—ensuring smooth and respectful access procedures

Assist with vehicle and staff movement tracking to ensure security during field visits or donor engagements

Report and document any security-related incidents, risks, or observed vulnerabilities

Coordinate with local police, community leaders, or site management teams on emerging threats or unrest

Participate in safety drills, basic first aid support, or emergency preparedness activities

Ensure that security equipment (gates, locks, torches, radios, fire extinguishers) is regularly checked and maintained

​Work closely with the Admin Coordinator to update security briefings, visitor orientation materials, or staff movement logs

Support security protocol enforcement during public events, church-based activities, or trauma response workshops

Core Experience
​
• 2–3 years working in a security, guard, safety, or operations role, ideally within humanitarian or NGO settings
• Experience supporting security in refugee settlements, rural sites, or faith-based community programs
• Familiarity with incident reporting, gate protocols, and emergency response procedures
• Training or certification in basic safety, first aid, or humanitarian security is an added advantage
• Knowledge of local dynamics and strong community trust is especially valuable
• Ability to maintain professional conduct across multifaith, multiethnic, and trauma-sensitive environments
